Stephen Levine, Ph.D.

Stephen A. Levine Ph.D. is recognized internationally for his classic text on free radical biochemistry – Antioxidant Adaptation: Its Role in Free Radical Pathology (Levine & Kidd, 1985) – and as a leader in the development of research-based nutritional supplementation.

Dr. Levine received his doctorate in Molecular Genetics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1976. He also holds a B.A. cum laude in biology from the State University, Buffalo, New York.

He has been Chairman of the Board of Allergy Research Group® (ARG) since founding the company in 1979, and in 1980 he founded the company’s subsidiary, Nutricology. Before founding ARG, Levine held senior research positions at three other companies. In September, 2008 ARG was sold to Kikkoman International, and Dr. Levine continues in his research and development capacity.

Dr. Levine has written and published a highly regarded quarterly newsletter, and contributed numerous lay and professional articles in nutritional science. Antioxidant Adaptation played a critical role of integrating diverse biochemical, physiological, and medical data in order to change the existing paradigm in disease causation to more of a unifying theory of oxidative damage and inflammation.

He lives in Marin County, California with wife Susan and two children.
